Prenatal care
Prenatal care and delivery in Miami.
A full course of prenatal care is about fourteen visits across nine months. We schedule all of them at the first appointment so the calendar is settled before the second trimester.
What is involved
How this works here
- Weeks 8 to 28: every four weeks. Dating scan, bloods, genetic screening if you want it, anatomy scan at twenty.
- Weeks 28 to 36: every two weeks. Glucose tolerance at twenty-eight, Tdap, anti-D if you are Rh negative.
- Weeks 36 to delivery: weekly, with group B strep at thirty-six and a birth plan written down rather than discussed and forgotten.
- Delivery at Baptist Hospital of Miami or Mount Sinai Medical Center, both with a Level III NICU on site.
- If care needs to transfer to maternal-fetal medicine, we arrange it rather than handing you a phone number.
What is included
Everything in the course of care, named
Fourteen scheduled visits
Booked at the first appointment so the calendar is settled early.
Dating scan
The twenty-week anatomy scan, and growth scans where they are indicated.
Routine bloods
Blood group and antibody screen, and anti-D if you are Rh negative.
Genetic screening offered and explained
Cell-free DNA, first-trimester combined, or neither, which is a legitimate choice.
Glucose tolerance testing at twenty-eight weeks
And earlier if there are risk factors.
Tdap in the third trimester and influenza vaccination in season.
Group B strep swab at thirty-six weeks
A written birth plan conversation
Kept in the notes rather than discussed and forgotten.
Between visits
What to call about, and when
- Bleeding at any stage — call the same day rather than waiting for the next appointment.
- Severe headache, visual disturbance or swelling that comes on suddenly, after twenty weeks.
- Reduced fetal movement after twenty-eight weeks. Do not wait until morning and do not drink cold water and lie down first.
- Regular tightenings before thirty-seven weeks.
- Anything you would have called about if you were not worried about being a nuisance.
Delivery
Where it happens and what we can and cannot promise
Baptist Hospital of Miami for Brickell
And Coral Gables patients; Mount Sinai Medical Center for Aventura. Both have a Level III NICU on site.
The clinician who attends the birth
Depends on who is on call that day. We will not pretend otherwise.
VBAC is supported where it is clinically appropriate
And the conversation about whether it is happens early rather than at thirty-eight weeks.
Birth preferences are recorded and travel
With you to the hospital, including preferences about pain relief and about who is present.
Prenatal care: common questions

Do you support VBAC?
What about midwife-led care?
When should the first appointment be?
Is the whole course billed at once?
