Contraception and IUD
Contraception and IUD placement in Miami.
Same-visit placement, with devices held in stock rather than ordered after the consultation.
What is involved
How this works here
- Copper and hormonal IUDs placed at the same visit where you are eligible, not at a second appointment weeks later.
- Contraceptive implants placed and removed in the office.
- The full range discussed, including the options that suit people who do not want hormones.
- Pain relief for placement offered as standard and discussed beforehand, not improvised.
- Removal whenever you ask, without a conversation about whether you are sure.
The options
Everything available here, with the honest trade-off
Hormonal IUD
Five to eight years, periods usually much lighter or absent, and the first-line medical treatment for heavy bleeding.
Copper IUD
Ten years, no hormones, and periods often heavier and more crampy for the first few cycles.
Implant
Three years, a single rod in the arm, placed and removed in the office; unpredictable bleeding is the main reason people have it out.
Combined pill, patch or ring
Good cycle control, not suitable with migraine with aura or certain clotting risks.
Progestogen-only pill
Suitable where oestrogen is not, requires more consistent timing.
Injection
Three-monthly, convenient, and return to fertility can take up to a year after stopping.
Barrier methods and fertility awareness
Discussed properly rather than dismissed.
Placement
What the appointment is actually like
- Pain relief is discussed before you book, not improvised on the table. Options include local anaesthetic to the cervix and taking an anti-inflammatory beforehand.
- Devices are held in stock, so placement happens at the same visit where you are eligible rather than at a second appointment weeks later.
- The procedure itself takes a few minutes. Cramping afterwards is normal for a day or two.
- You may bring someone into the room.
- If it is too painful, we stop. That is a sentence worth saying out loud because it is not always offered.
