Minimally invasive surgery
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery in Miami.
Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures, including hysterectomy, at Baptist and Mount Sinai.
What is involved
How this works here
- Hysteroscopy for polyps, submucosal fibroids and abnormal bleeding — often day-case.
- Laparoscopy for endometriosis excision, ovarian cysts and ectopic pregnancy.
- Laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy, usually same-day or one night.
- Myomectomy where the uterus is being preserved.
- Open surgery where the anatomy requires it, said plainly rather than attempted laparoscopically and converted.
Procedures
What is done, and where
Hysteroscopy
Polyps, submucosal fibroids and abnormal bleeding. Often a day case, sometimes in the office.
Operative laparoscopy
Endometriosis excision, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, adhesiolysis.
Laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy
Usually same-day or one night.
Myomectomy
Hysteroscopic, laparoscopic or open, depending on where the fibroids sit.
Endometrial ablation where childbearing is complete
And medical treatment has not worked.
Open surgery where the anatomy requires it said in advance rather than attempted laparoscopically and converted mid-procedure.
Recovery
Ranges, not best cases
- Office hysteroscopy: back to normal the same day, light spotting for a few days.
- Day-case hysteroscopic surgery: one to three days.
- Operative laparoscopy: one to two weeks for desk work, longer for anything physical.
- Laparoscopic hysterectomy: two to three weeks for desk work, six before heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.
- Shoulder-tip pain after laparoscopy is from the gas and settles in a day or two. It alarms people because nobody warned them.
